Potential and Sunk Cost

TL;DR: Play along to get involved or don't play at all. It's all been done, the walls have eyes, rules for thee but not for some. It feels like a well-maintained ghost town when you log in to 10 idling players and no Staff members.

I talked to some current players about the situation of this place while I juggled alts to get a feel for it. They're very nice people, but when I talked about the ingame Religion roleplay I wanted to get involved in they either ghosted me or told me that it needed approval or was no longer planned. I couldn't navigate the note system to specifically contact staff and because they're either not around or invisible(You aren't allowed to solicit them when they aren't visible) I focused on talking to other players.

Everyone's waiting for roleplay events but then power through them at the speed of light before any newbies get involved, so I couldn't experience anything.

I chatted about starting up player events since the Staff is now promoting that, but the players I spoke to hesitated. I prodded about their concern but they spoke about day-to-day play. People are on edge because all channels are monitored, private/unseen actions in public areas are restricted, Staff Alt gets away with breaking rules while Player gets reprimanded, etc.

When I looked through the rules, I spotted one that disallowed your character coming from another dimension. But looking through past events and asking about it there was an entire roleplay with a player connecting his alternate dimension to this one.

It's not a fun time because everyone seems to hate everyone else, but The Gathering is not the awful bogeyman people make it out to be.
