BrutusMUD character starts with one of the basic classes (warrior, thief, cleric or magic user).
At level 30 you select one of three specializations that take your character in different direction.
After reaching level 60 you can gain five ranks and experienced players say that the game really starts getting interesting after reaching the fifth rank. This opens up plethora of legendary skills, organized into multiple branches for each class, with anywhere from forty to over a hundred unique skills per branch. Players can then advance to additional legendary grades that unlock more powerful items and additional item options.
The world of BrutusMUD contains some stock zones but with almost 40k locations it is mostly original.
There are three basic modes of play, selected at character creation: normal where player gets a plenty of experience but loses experince from death; casual where player gets fewer experience but doesn't lose any from death; and hardcore where death is final but comes with bragging rights.
There is limited multiplay allowed, player can connect two characters at a time. There is no limit to the number of characters given person can have but no more than two can be online at the same time.
As of 2024 the MUD is still being actively developed, both code and the world.
